Excerpt from... “The Love Story that Never Happened”

I smiled to myself as I briskly walked to my car. In the distance I could see the silhouette of a woman similar in contrast to myself. Is that her? I said to myself. I could not help myself. I wanted to see for myself who it was that I was filling the void of. I slowed my pace just enough so that our paths could cross. Did she look like me? . I didn’t really need to know, but something in me wanted to know. I wanted to know what similarities we had that made him choose me despite having her.
She wore a burgundy peacoat with black slacks and a pair of stiletto boots, I’m sure from Nine West because I owned the same in a chocolate brown shade. Her hair was long and bouncy. I could tell she went for weekly sets at the Dominicans. She hugged her Gucci bag close to her body. She had a taste for the finer things. She had a heir about her that made it apparent that she thought she was the shit. Luckily for me, he didn’t think so.
I jumped in my car, plugged in my headset and started the ignition. I could still smell his cologne and every time I thought about our escapade I felt a shiver in my bones. Caught up in my replay of the evenings events the vibration of my cell brought my out of my trance. The number on my cell showed up as private. I usually didn’t pick up calls from private numbers but I was puzzled as to who it could be so I answered hesitantly. "Hello?" "Where are you" the voice replied. It was my honey. "I’m on my way home" I said. "You’ve gotta come back" he said. "Why, are you missing me already?", Well, Yeah he said" but you left your purse" he said almost whispering. "What?" I replied. "I’m on my way back". My heart was now beating out of my chest. I quickly made a u-turn and headed back from whence I came. My mind was racing. Did she find it?, No, she couldn’t have, he sounded too calm. How is he gonna get out the house? He’ll think of something. Don’t worry, just hurry. I was asking and answering my own questions. The lights couldn’t change fast enough. I felt like I was catching every red light. This is exactly what I get, messing with someone else’s man.
