Small World -Chapter One

CAMILLE
Camille sat alone in her living room, which at that hour seemed
suspended in time. The melody of sad slow love song bellowed in the background. Her legs had grown tiresome of pacing the floor anticipating Dave’s return. She sat and wondered where and what he was doing. She awoke earlier to an empty bed and resigned yet again to a breakfast alone. Camille felt a surge of anger and seething resentment. Things had been going so well with Dave. She had finally found happiness after one of the most tumultuous years of her life and he was truly fucking it up.
Camille had been dating Dave for almost a year now. She met him at her gym, Platinum Fitness. She had just arrived to take her Wednesday night Cardio Funk class and he was finishing up repairing a broken glass in one of the studios. She could feel his eyes on her backside as she sashayed across the room. The class began to fill up and he quickly made his exit.
Camille was a pretty girl; she stood about five feet four, one hundred and fifty pounds, mostly booty. She was the complexion of a diet peach Snapple, with medium length hair and a dimple on her left cheek that was simply irresistible.
It was now seven o’clock in the evening and dark out. Daylight savings time really made the day steal away quickly. Camille tried Dave’s cell and just as she expected the call went straight to voicemail. She slapped her cell shut refusing to leave anymore messages, eight was enough.
Camille turned out the lights in the house and retreated to her bedroom. She stepped out her clothes and slipped into bed. She reached over to clock radio on her night stand , hit the alarm set for six in the morning and grabbed her cell phone.
"What’s up girl?" chimed the voice on the other end.
"I give up" , exclaimed Camille into the phone.
"What happened now" said Kellie
" I cannot win for losing, something has got to give" I mean , really. Why do I keep getting the short end of the stick?"
"This man leaves out before I even wake up and he’s not back yet. Its going on eight o’clock now and he hasn’t even called.
"Calm down, I’m sure he has a reason." said Kellie. "Maybe his phone is dead? "
The words burst out from her "Oh, so a pay phone is out of the question?" I don’t think so. Just wait till he gets in here, its on" said Camille
"Don’t do nothing crazy, be easy." said Kellie
Camille was no stranger to drama in her life.
Only a year ago, she had divorced her husband, Sean after three years of marriage. They were high school sweethearts and each other’s first. They were young when they married and couldn’t handle the commitment once it was official. Somehow, that piece of paper changed everything. They remained friends but tried their best to keep their distance from each other whenever they were involved in relationships.
